Let’s Finish that First Draft: Staying Motivated in a Project Ft. Kaytlin Phillips

Hi, y’all! Wow, it’s been a long minute since I’ve written a post for here. During my abscence, I’ve been working on putting together some fun and exciting resources on Teen Writers’ Nook and one of those projects are: TWN summer livestreams! Over the summer, Teen Writers’ Nook is going to be hosting four livestreams on YouTube featuring amazing authors like Kaytlin Phillips and Allie Jo Andersen covering topics like writing first drafts, creating an author brand, and tips for worldbuilding. This has been something I’ve wanted to do for the website for a while now because one of the things that helped me immensely as a newbie writer was getting to hear tips and guidance from people who had done what I was trying to do: write an incredible book. I always knew I wanted to one day give the same back out there and seeing this dream become a reality is just… wow, it’s been great putting this together. And I am SO stoked to be able to share it with you guys!

And guess what?

Our first livestream is happening TOMORROW.

Yes, you heard me right. Tomorrow at 2 PM EDT (New York time), Teen Writers’ Nook will be joining creator of Writer’s Vision and author of World of Silence live on YouTube to talk about one of the biggest struggles any writer will face: finishing that first draft. I hope to see you there!!! Can’t make it to the stream? No worries. You can watch the replay at anytime after the stream.

About the Session:

One of the greatest obstacles aspiring and professional writers face is the motivation to complete a project, especially finishing that first draft. Join Teen Writers’ Nook founders Katherine, Madeleine, & Issabelle alongside Writers’ Vision founder and author of World of Silence and Emberling, Kaytlin Phillips for this live stream centered around discussing the common obstacles writers face in lacking motivation and advice on how to overcome it.

Highlights are:
⭐ why writers struggle to stick with a project
⭐ common tips to boost motivation and how helpful they are
⭐ our personal experience with the drafting process
⭐ what we wished we knew when we wrote our first novel
⭐ the benefits of community for drafting writers
⭐ is writer’s block even real???

About Kaytlin Phillips:

Kaytlin Phillips is a homeschool grad who spends her days praising her Savior, reading, writing, blogging, and annoying her sisters with random thoughts. She is the fifth child out of seven and resides in the Southern Appalachian foothills of Western North Carolina.
She believes in the power of stories and their ability to change lives. And when not writing stories of hope, purpose, and redemption, you can find Kayti (as everyone calls her) reading, hiking, or taking random pictures.

Have any questions about sticking with a project or building motivation you want us to discuss tomorrow? Feel free to drop them in the comments below.

Issabelle Perry is a proud Jesus follower, an extroverted writer, and a homeschool graduate. When she's not writing, you can find her reading, jamming to Skillet, studying history, hunting for Narnia in wardrobes, or envisioning herself wielding a magnificent sword (but due to her clumsiness, let’s hope that never happens). This self-proclaimed exclamation mark enthusiast can be found hanging out at Teen Writers’ Nook, a community of teen authors Issabelle co-founded in 2020. She is the author of Don't Let Me Go (Sky's the Limit Press 2024), May We Make Them Proud (2023), and a co-editor for two anthologies. What she’s probably doing right now is fangirling about her favorite books to random people or scanning the pantries for chocolate.
